Founded in 1946, Chevalier College has grown into a school known for its warmth, its values and its deep sense of belonging. What began as a small Catholic community in the Southern Highlands has become a place where young people are known, supported and encouraged to become their best selves.
At Chev, education has always been about more than academic achievement. It is about forming confident, compassionate young people who understand who they are, what they stand for, and how they can contribute meaningfully to the world around them. An independent secondary Catholic school founded and owned by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC), Chevalier College is founded on the belief in the love and compassion of God found in the Heart of Jesus.
Ours is a spirit of family and a spirit of true friendship, formed by kindness and understanding, by compassion and mutual forgiveness, by gentleness, humility and simplicity, by hospitality and a sense of humour.

The heart of Chev has always been its people. Strong relationships between students, teachers and families shape everyday life at the College, creating an environment where learning feels personal, supportive and purposeful.
Students are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and grow with confidence, knowing they are supported at every step. Care, respect and kindness are not abstract ideals here, they are lived daily in classrooms, on the grounds, and within the wider community.
This sense of connection allows students to feel safe being themselves, while also being challenged to grow.

Chev’s approach balances tradition with progress. Our values are deeply rooted, but our focus is firmly on preparing young people for the world they are stepping into. Learning at Chev nurtures curiosity, adaptability and critical thinking. Students are encouraged to engage with new ideas, emerging pathways and real-world challenges, while remaining grounded in empathy, service and integrity.
Our philosophy of education can be summed up in the phrase: ‘The Heart of Education is the Education of the Heart’. This means that everything we do at Chevalier College, in the academic and in the extracurricular life of the college, is about enhancing and developing all the unique gifts, talents and personalities of the young people in our care. In this way, they will come to know they are deeply loved by God.
The key to this is respectful and good relationships at all levels of the College community – between staff and staff, students and staff, students and students. The best teaching and learning takes place in the context of healthy, respectful, good and right relationships. In the teaching of young people, teachers cannot separate what they teach from who they are.
Our philosophy is based on a ‘Spirituality of the Heart’ which finds its roots in the charism and spirit of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, the founders and owners of the College.
Set in the natural surrounds of the Southern Highlands, Chev offers a sense of space and calm that supports both learning and wellbeing. More importantly, it offers a strong sense of belonging.
