Our educational model encourages and guides students to achieve their full potential and become the best they can be. We meet them where they are and take them beyond where they thought they could get to, always with this wellbeing safety net to support them.
We aim to:
When we refer to wellbeing we are referring to nurturing five elements: social, spiritual, emotional, academic and physical wellbeing. We focus on the whole person, not just their academic potential.
Counselling and Support
We offer a free confidential counselling service to all students. At Chev we are fortunate to have the experience of a psychologist as our Head of Counselling. Our counselling team are part of q wider support team, alongside the Home Room Tutors, Leaders of House and other college staff who aim to provide ongoing support to students using a holistic approach.
Our counselling team are experienced in supporting students to manage and recover from a variety of health conditions, as well as offering support during times of friendship difficulties, grief, stress management and other difficulties that they may experience.
The counsellors work alongside the Diverse Learning team to provide educational assessments for students with academic difficulties.
Academic Care Philosophy
At Chevalier College, the interconnectedness between academics and wellbeing is a given. When these two elements come together, students are supported to reach their individual potential.
We believe that academic and personal success is hard to achieve if a student’s wellbeing is not in balance. Our academic care philosophy brings together pastoral support and academic attention, resulting in students who wholeheartedly embrace their life choices and enjoy their time at high school.
This model of academic care sits at the heart of Chevalier College’s learning philosophy. We call this a heart-centred education and are proud of what we achieve through this approach. The heart-centred ethos is applied to all decisions — from leadership through to daily classroom interactions and is not simply something to be taught; it is who we are as a community.
To deliver a genuinely heart-centred education, we have invested significantly in our resources, with a dedicated team including Assistant Principals, an Academic Care Coordinator, full-time Counsellors (qualified psychologists), Leaders of House, and Home Room Tutors responsible for pastoral care. Every student has access to trusted adults for guidance, support, or a helping hand on a tough day.
Our core philosophy is to bring out the best in every student, giving equal attention to high academic achievers and those whose strengths lie in other fields, while always prioritising student wellbeing.
School Attendance
Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.
We work in partnership with parents and carers to encourage and support regular attendance. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
Our lead tutor for each house is responsible for monitoring and supporting student attendance.
