Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability 2013 – 2015

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

You may be aware that every year Commonwealth, State and Territory governments collect statistical information from schools about the students who are enrolled. This information creates a statistical snapshot of education in Australia, which is used for a range of purposes (e.g., school funding levels, planning future schools, research, the My School website etc.). In 2015 this collection will take place in August.

Chevalier College is participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data: Students with Disabilities (NCCD).  The Commonwealth Government is changing the way information is collected about students with disabilities so that it is the same across the country. Every year all schools in all states and territories will supply information about the number and general type of disability students are affected by, and the level of support they need from their school.

For the purposes of this collection, disability is as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 and is quite broad. It includes physical, sensory, cognitive and social/emotional conditions.

No student names, specific conditions or other identifying features will be included in the information that is provided to the Commonwealth as a part of this process.

It is a simple tally of the number of students within a school affected by a disability, the broad category of disability (not the specific condition) and a rating of the level of support required. All information is protected by privacy laws, which regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.

If, after reading this information you decide that you do not want any information regarding your child to be included in the data collection, please complete the opt-out form and return it to Student Services.

If you do not advise the school that you wish to opt out, de-identified information about your child will be included in the data collection.
