Taking up the ‘Business Plan Challenge’
On Friday 21 November, three Year 11 Chevalier students will present their business plan for a chance to claim the major prize in the University of Newcastle’s ‘Business Plan Challenge’. Amelia Findlay, Brooke Smith and Laura Suttor impressed the judges from the Faculty of Business and Law with their plan for ‘La Beauté Naturellé’, which was selected as one of three finalists from over 500 entries across New South Wales. As finalists the students have won $1000 and the College also receives $500.
From the university website: The Year 11 Business Plan Challenge is a competition designed to encourage business thinking among high school students. Participants select a new or existing product/service and develop a business plan that innovatively delivers the product/service to the market. When business plans have been completed, students present their research on developing and marketing their product as well as the relevant financial and human resource implications. Students who participate in the Year 11 Business Plan Challenge gain valuable insight into the interesting opportunities that await them in the business world.
First prize in the final round is $2,500, plus a part-scholarship within a Business Degree at the University of Newcastle, if the students so desire. The winning students’ school will also receive additional prize money.
We are very proud of Amelia, Brook and Laura, and this of course is wonderful news for Luke Tyler, their Business Studies teacher, who has supported and guided them to achieve this outcome. The girls are looking forward to the experience and opportunity of the final round and we wish them all the very best.
