Sports Report – ISA Winter Round 7

It’s hard to believe we’re now into Round 7 of the Winter Season – time flies and the weather is set to turn really chilly! Saturday was another great day for playing or just watching sport. Chev teams were spread near and far competing in Saturday matches, and our fantastic Mountain Bike Team competed in the NSW Interschool’s event on Sunday. We also had a number of girls competing at the NSW Interschools Equestrian Titles held at Horsley Park late last week.

On Saturday, our Netballers and Rugby teams were at home and results overall all were very impressive.

The 1sts Netballers came away with a great 8 point win against Central Coast, with Steffi Lockett, Georgia Baron and Laura McIntyre impressing. The Junior A team deserves special mention for turning on a fantastic last quarter. The girls trailed by 4 at the end of the third quarter but ended up scraping home by 1 point in a very exciting match. Good wins also for the 2nds and Inter A teams.

In the Rugby against All Saints, the 13s and 14s were big winners. The 15s match was one of the day’s best with Chev just going down by 2 points. The 16s were very impressive in attack and came away with a dominant 32-7 win. The 1sts match was a tough battle with scores close until the dying stages when Chev put on a couple of late scores. Tries were scored by Rohan Wemyss, Benji Maule and Dan McGee who got 2. Dan was man of the match, but was well supported by Jed McGuinness, Lachlan Larney-Dawson and Callum Peattie.

On the road, the Hockey teams and some of the girls’ soccer teams travelled to the Central Coast.

The Hockey matches were top of the table clashes in the 1sts and Junior A games. Unfortunately, the home team prevailed in both matches but each game was a very closely fought contest. The Junior B team came home very happy after their 1-0 win.

In the Girls’ Soccer the Inters continue to perform well and finished with a 2-2 draw. Goals were scored by Millie Horn and Erin Sommers. The junior teams didn’t fare so well.

The 1sts and 2nds were both away against the very competent Barker Girls and lopsided scorelines probably don’t reflect the efforts by the Chev Girls.

The Boys’ Soccer teams were playing against St Andrews at Wentworth Park and the Domain. Great wins on the road for the 1sts, 2nds, 13B and 14B teams. For the 1sts, Angus Byfield scored a great long range goal, and Liam Ryan-East and Ben Walker both played well. The 2nd’s scorers were Aidan Bertrand and Liam Mulhall.

Special mention this week to all our umpires and referees who make sure that games can actually be played each week. There are many current and past students who give up their time to come and blow the whistle each week. Of the current students the following students need to be thanked for their contribution so far this season:

Netball: Amelia Gardner, Jess Maronese, Molly Good, Lucy Irvine, Teagan Mattick , Mackenzie Edwards, Zahli Terry, Zoe Phillips.
Soccer: Oscar Prien, Carlo Teodorowych, Daniel Cusack, Finn Sullivan.

And last, but certainly not least, well done to our Mountain Bike Team… the 2017 NSW INTER SCHOOLS CHAMPIONS!

More results to come but I am sure Cam Cowen and Tom Schymitzek will be happy to show of the winners shield tomorrow morning!
