Sports Report – ISA Winter Finals

What a beautiful warm (almost spring) day for the Finals of the ISA Winter Sport season. It was possibly a bit too hot for some players and fans, with all the tension and excitement.

The first Chev team in action was the Inter A Netballers who took on Barker College at Homebush.

What a game to start the day! An epic battle going down to the final seconds of play.

What a game to start the day! An epic battle going down to the final seconds of play.

Tied at 33-33, shooters Olivia Daley and Gabi McColl remained as calm as they could be under pressure to nail the winning goal.

The Junior A team played later against Blue Mountains and finished off  their season with a 38-49 loss. The Mountains girls were just a little too good on the day.

The closest final to the Highlands was the Hockey at Moorebank.

The 1sts were taking on Central Coast whom Chev have played against in the majority of recent encounters.

This was the Chev hockey girls’ time to shine and they finished winners at the final whistle 2-0.

Chev’s goalscorer was Tessa Good who was well supported by the rest of her teammates.

A fitting end to the Chev hockey careers for Tessa and the other Year 12 girls in the hockey team – Lauren Balla, April Hamilton, Sage Herrod, Lucy O’Hea and Kaelan Read.

Further across Sydney at Oakhill a big crowd had gathered for the Rugby Finals with Chev teams participating in the 13s and 1sts.

The 13s started the day on a very bright note with a great win over Redfield 36-22.

Stars for Chev were Artie Maynard, Hugh Hansen, Riley Malone and Rohn Schmidt-Martin.

Chev’ 1sts were full of hopes to finish the day with a win that would have capped off a great season – but the 0-20 half time scoreline just didn’t fit the script!

A second half fightback saw Chev get back to 20-14 with all to play for, but an intercept try to Redfield saw them take an unassailable lead to finish 25-21 victors.

Disappointed and upset, the Chev Boys were very gracious in defeat.

Finally to the Boys Football at Blacktown and success for the Boys 1sts in their final against Redfield.

A terrific match saw Chev take the lead close to half time with a goal from an Austen Cribbin-Blencowe penalty kick.

Redfield equalised early in the second half and an epic end to end battle ensued. With extra time called for and time running out, Christian Giuliano was the hero with a well-taken goal that won the match.

So another winter sports season has concluded and 2019 has certainly been one of Chev’s best with Chevalier College being named overall champion school for Hockey and Netball in 2019!

Congratulations and thanks to all the players and coaching staff on a great season!
