Sports Report – ISA Summer Finals

Chevalier College had four teams at the season semis and finals on Saturday 7 March competing in Softball and Basketball.

Softball: The Chev’ 1sts girls had a late change of plan with Blacktown being unavailable due to the rain. They travelled to Barker College to play against the hot shot local team and, despite giving their best, their season finished with a semi-final loss. Emily Veness took a screamer of a catch and there were a few great fielding plays. The Chev girls certainly put up a gutsy fight and showed a lot of heart.

Basketball: Chev had three teams participating in the finals at Penrith.

The 13B boys team were up against a very good Oakhill Red team and never gave up despite being outplayed. The final score was 51-16 against us with Chev’s best being William Bryce and Xavier O’Brien.

The 15B boys took on Redlands in a close encounter. The Chev boys were two points behind at half time. Redlands went out to a big lead early in the second half, and though the Chev boys fought back well, they couldn’t close down the gap finishing up behind by 5. In a 30-35 result Chev’s best were Kuan Brown and Jet Ostrer.

The Inter Girls also played Redlands whom we had not beaten this season. In a great team effort the girls remained as calm as they could throughout the game. They were 26-23 down with a minute to play, but baskets from Logan Lewis and Darcy Bull ended with Chev one point ahead on the buzzer.

Stars in a great team effort were Darcy Bull, Miranda Feely and Sienna Rossi.

The Chev Inter Girls Basketballers claimed the Grand Final win in an exciting match.

So another summer season concludes with the grass a lot greener than it was at the end of last year. Congratulations to all players, coaches, and everyone involved in a season that’s had drought, heat, fire, flood, smoke, bad air quality and now a global virus to test us!
