Sports Report – ISA Semi Finals
Saturday 17 August was a great day of action and excitement around the grounds for the ISA semi finals with a host of Chev teams participating and much warmer and calmer playing conditions than the previous Saturday.
At school we hosted a couple of Boys Soccer semi finals with the 1sts and 2nds both playing. The 2nds played Central Coast with whom they have had a couple of very close matches during the season.
Saturday’s game was no different. Central Coast took the lead late in the first half, Michael Alexander headed a very brave equaliser mid-way through the second half. With extra time required it looked like the game would go to penalty kicks until a defensive mix-up resulted in a late Central Coast winner.
The 1sts were up against Blue Mountains against whom they have had a couple of good wins during the season. Chev dominated the first half and a well taken goal by Christian Giuliano after 10 minutes meant Chev led at half time. Blue Mountains came back well in the second half but the Chev boys did just enough to hold on for a win.
The other boys’ teams travelled and unfortunately the 13s, 14s and 16s were on the wrong side of the scoreline.
In the Girls Football all the teams travelled to different venues. The 1sts were up against the strong Barker College team and had to keep picking the ball out of the net in a very lopsided scoreline. Sophie Irvine was our lone scorer.
Unfortunately the Inters and Juniors were also on the receiving end and there will be no Chev Girls teams in the finals this season.
In the Hockey at Moorebank the girls were up against Oxley in the 1sts and 4ths and Central Coast in the 2nds.
The 4ths and 2nds were vanquished, but the 1sts played well and were too strong for Oxley. Goalscorers were Tessa Good, Emily Purcell and Grace Howard.
The Netballers always look forward to being able to play at Netball Central at Homebush and with six teams participating it was pleasing to report that the Inter A and Junior A teams have progressed to the Finals.
All of the Chev teams were competing in the Rugby semi finals at Oakhill.
The 13s started the day in fine fashion with a big win over Redlands.
In good matches, the 14s, 15s and 16s seasons ended with semi final losses.
The 1sts were strong and polished in a 50-10 win over Oxley.
The front row of Pat Connelly, Will Docherty and Jaydan Evangelista were excellent.
So the winning teams now look forward to this Saturday’s finals and it’s great to have Chev represented in most sports.
Commiserations to those teams whose season have now finished. All have represented the college well throughout the season and can be proud of their efforts.
