It’s raining CAT nominations for Baskerville

Nominations for the Canberra Area Theatre Awards have just been announced and we are very excited that ‘Baskerville – A Sherlock Holmes Mystery’ has been nominated for ten awards across six categories in the School Youth Nominations for CAT Awards 2018.

Presented in May, this year’s Chevalier College production of Baskerville was a truly rewarding experience in the theatre.

This fast-paced comedy by Ken Ludwig is a zany take on Sherlock’s most famed whodunit, and gave Director Kate Price, the production team and cast members plenty of scope to improvise and showcase their diverse talents. With atmospheric music, clever lighting and creative sets, the misty moors, smoky train stations and cobbled streets of London in the 1920’s came to life with a passing parade of madcap characters who kept you guessing right till the end.

The CAT Awards recognise the enormous contribution made by non-professional groups to the artistic life of Australia, in particular in Canberra and surrounding regions, and are encouraging to individuals, theatre companies and schools in the performing arts.

A Gala Evening will be held in Canberra to present the awards on Saturday 23 February 2019 and will be a big occasion for all attending nominees.

We look forward to getting underway with our 2019 musical production of Ben Elton’s ‘We Will Rock You’ – the rock musical based on the songs of British rock band Queen. Students have been called to audition and excitement is building towards using the newly refurbished Performing Arts Centre facilities for preparations and rehearsals in this space.
