ISA Summer Round 10
ISA Results – Round 10 Saturday 24 February 2024
Some great wins on the weekend saw some teams propelled to the top of the table at the end of ten rounds. Congratulations to the teams that have made it to the semi finals and special mention to the 14A Boys Basketball team who made it straight to the final!!
BASKETBALL – BOYS
All boys’ basketball teams played away, travelling to various locations, with the exception of 14B who had the JFC to themselves.

BASKETBALL – GIRLS
The girls all played away games last weekend.
- Ists had a great win 64-59.

Round 9 & 10 Cricket Wrap VS Oakhill and St Pius X Respectively
In the last two rounds of the home and away fixtures Chevalier College had the pleasure of hosting Oakhill College and St Pius X. It makes a lot of sense to combine these two cricket reports because both matches followed a very similar trajectory.
In Round 9, the wet weather meant that the game was transferred to the synthetic pitch on the Moss Vale Rd side of the College. Harry Mooney won the toss and decided to bat given the previous success the team had in Round 7 against the same opponent. The innings started slowly and Rohan D missed out with the bat for the first time in a long time. However, his partner in crime, Josh M (55) batted intelligently to compile his first half century of the season. He was also ably supported by Harry M (46) who batted without offering any chances and the two brought up a century partnership to bring the score to a very promising 1/115. However, when Harry and Josh departed in the same over, the middle and lower order really faltered, and the side was bundled out for 151 in the 44th over. A competitive total but well below the 220 that was on the cards midway through the innings.
The team rallied for the second innings and a fiery opening spell from both Henry M (2/7 from 5 overs) and Louie K (1/17 from 5 overs) had the Oakhill batsman jumping around and in trouble at 3 for 7. The spinners continued to squeeze the opposition Harry M (2/10) bowled tightly and Oliver L (2/5) took his first two wickets for the First XI to really ram home the advantage for Chev. When the thunder and lightning came at 4.00pm, Oakhill were 9/66 and needed to be 106 to be level with the required run rate. To constitute a match both sides must face at least 30 overs and thankfully Oakhill had batted for 34 when the storm hit hard. Both captains were happy to shake hands and Chev claimed their 5th victory in a row.
Round 10 was the battle for first position on the ladder as Pius X made their way down to the Highlands to face the Chev side. Pius were placed first going into the fixture and Chev needed a win and all 6 points to snatch top spot. The weather conditions were vastly different to the week, and indeed the day, before. Cool mist and gentle rain greeted both sides at the beginning of the day, but thankfully no substantial rain played a part and a full match could be contested. The Pius captain won the toss and, given the outfield conditions, surprisingly elected to bowl. The Chev boys were quite content with this outcome knowing that the ball would soon resemble a piece of soap and be mighty difficult to bowl with.
Yet again, Rohan D (72) and Josh M (40) got the team off to a great start and the score was 0-101 when Josh was the first wicket to fall. Unfortunately, the ghosts of Round 9 came back to haunt us and the next 9 wickets fell for a miserly 42 runs. Four ducks and a 0 not out did very little to trouble the scorers and the team was ultra-disappointed with failing to finish the job off for the second week in a row.
However, this team doesn’t linger on the negatives, and they got straight into their work with the ball in hand. The Pius opening partnership was broken when the score was 29, and again it was the captain, Harry M (2/29 from 10 overs) who took the early scalp by snaring a difficult caught and bowled. From that point wickets continued to fall regularly and Oliver L (4/20 from 10 overs) bowled a brilliant spell of off-spin to really rip apart the middle order of the opposition. Charlie T (2/12 from 6 overs) also bowled his best spell since coming into the First XI set up late last year. It’s wonderful to see our youngsters in Year 7 and 8 contributing so much to the overall team performance. At 9/95 the last two Pius batters put up a valiant effort and got the score to 116 before Rohan D found the edge and Josh M took a good catch to claim victory and first place on the ladder at 5:00pm Saturday afternoon.
A pretty special achievement from the team who won only 1 of their first 4 matches before storming home to win 6 of their last 6 at the back end of the season. The side knows their job is not yet done and there are issues in the batting which need to be resolved, but the side are very proud of where they have finished given they had not been at the top of the ladder at any stage this year and haven’t made the finals for the last 5 years.
Finishing first means a home-semi final this week against Oakhill College and we would love to see as many supporters as possible on site to give the team a real “home ground advantage”. Even if you can’t do the full day just a session or two would be very much appreciated.
TOUCH FOOTBALL – GIRLS
The girls touch football teams all played away against Oxley.
- 1sts won 5-3
- 2nds won 4-3
- Inter As lost 4 nil
- Inter Bs lost in a high scoring game 6-8
- Junior As won a convincing 10 nil
- Junior Bs lost the first game 4-6 and won the second game 9-3.
