Letter from the Principal

Principal, Chris McDermottWelcome to our website.

It is hoped that your visit to this site will be both enjoyable and informative. It is our intent that after visiting this site you will have a sound understanding of what Chevalier College represents, what is important to us, what we are proud of and what we may be able to offer those who might be considering joining our family community.

I commenced my journey with this wonderful community in January 2008, stepping into the shoes of many a past MSC Priest and, most recently, those of Fred Stubenrauch. How privileged I feel to be able to come to work each day to a learning environment that transcends basic learning needs and focuses on the whole person. On the glorious and splendid 100 acre site, beautifully maintained in a park-like setting, students are able to experience the diversity of offerings of a large school, whilst feeling they are in a very secure and comfortable small school setting.

Chevalier College is a co-educational day school that maintains an enrolment of approximately 1,100 students.  It is unashamedly a Catholic Secondary School, owned by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart [MSC] and operated within their Charism. It is a Charism that focuses on love for one another, the same love that Jesus offers to us all. It is through this Charism that the school has a very calm, peaceful and respectful feel about it. It is within this Charism that students are encouraged and supported to be the best people they can be and to be the best carers of others they can be.  The College is staffed predominantly by lay people and is blessed with a community of two MSC Priests and an MSC Brother. This small but very active MSC community is an integral part of the life of the College and indeed the wider community.

2009 sees the College enter its 63rd year in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. The College has a proud history and is very thankful to the 10,000 plus past students for the legacy they have given the current and future students of the College.

I invite you to explore this website in depth and witness for yourself the very special nature of the Chevalier College Family.

Warm regards,

Chris McDermott
