Visual Arts

The Chevalier College Visual Arts Department has a proud tradition of excellence in learning and teaching created by a strong, dynamic, highly qualified and experienced faculty.

Chevalier students have an opportunity to study Visual Arts from Year Seven to Year Twelve, ultimately sitting for the NSW Higher School Certificate in Visual Arts and in Photography.

All traditional and contemporary media are explored including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, wet and digital photography, installation and performance art. Our students’ art making is supported by a rigorous program of Art History and Criticism.

Students of all abilities are provided for with opportunities for gifted and talented students available through the Visual Arts Department’s Enrichment Program. Our young artists are invited to participate in exhibitions within the College and in the wider community. Every year students in the HSC class are nominated for the ArtExpress exhibition of exemplary artworks while others are successful in receiving other awards and prizes.

A measure of the strength of Visual Arts in the College is the number of students who have gone on to study Visual Arts at a tertiary level and to pursue careers as artists, designers, arts professionals and Visual Arts educators.
