Chev Mountain Bikers hit the trail for 2020 Willo Enduro
The Chevalier College Mountain Bike Team braved an early start to head to Canberra for the 10th edition of the James Williamson Enduro at Sparrow Hill on Sunday 1 March. The race is run each year in memory of Chevalier College Past Student James Williamson who was a World Champion mountain biker. Each year ‘The Willo’ event attracts crowds of mountain bikers to ride and remember a great bloke who was an exceptional athlete.
Many of the team’s riders had not entered a mountain biking event before, so the energy at the start line was electric. A combination of nerves and excitement always makes for a good race. Once the gun went, racers had a long steady climb to sort out their positions in the field and then they hit the sweet single trail that Sparrow Hill is famous for. The winding and flowing trails made for great racing over 13km that left the competitors wanting more.
We had some great results as follows:
13km U15s female
1st place Bridie McCarthy
2nd place Daisy Brumfield
3rd place Harriette Bowen
13km U15s male
3rd place Henry Hurley

The Chevalier College team also had some older students race in the U17s 25km event, with Sam McMahon and Sebastian Cruz both making the top ten in a fiercely competitive race.
Also racing in the event as an official Willo ambassador and Willo Camp member was Chevalier student Harrison Johnson. Harrison is an elite young rider who competed in the U17 50km race. He finished in 1st place a huge 50 minutes in front of his nearest competitor!
Overall we had a very successful day. Thanks go to the committed group of parents for transporting and supporting their children to the event. Also thanks to Rocky Trail Entertainment’s Jo and Bob who made us feel very welcome and made entering the event so easy.
Congratulations to all the riders, we will see you on the trails soon.
